How to protect aluminum alloy truss from damage

Jul 05, 2025

When transporting aluminum alloy trusses, protective measures must be implemented in terms of packaging, fixing, and transportation conditions to avoid structural damage caused by bumps and extrusion:

Refined packaging design:

The single truss is fully wrapped with EPE pearl cotton (thickness ≥10mm), hard plastic corner guards (thickness ≥5mm) are installed at the corners, and the connection between the chord and the web is wrapped with more than 3 layers of bubble film. Long trusses (over 6 meters) require customized detachable steel frame transport boxes, with shock-absorbing rubber pads (hardness 50 Shore A) laid inside, and anti-collision buffer strips (density ≥30kg/m³) set around the box to prevent rigid collisions during transportation bumps.

Fixing and loading specifications:

When loading, the trusses are stacked in layers according to their specifications, separated by wooden partitions (thickness ≥ 20mm) between layers, and cross stacking is prohibited. Ratchet straps (breaking strength ≥ 5000N) are used to fix the trusses to the carriages, with a strap set every 2 meters, and protective felt pads at the corners to avoid strangulation of the surface. Extra-long trusses need to be supported by the tail bracket to ensure that the length of the cantilever end is ≤ 1/4 of the total length to prevent the cantilever from being deformed by force.Transport environment control:

For long-distance transportation, closed trucks are preferred to avoid rain corrosion or direct sunlight accelerated oxidation caused by open-air transportation. The speed should be controlled at ≤80km/h during transportation, and the speed should be reduced to below 30km/h when turning to reduce sudden braking and bumps. Forklifts (fork tine width ≥150mm) and rubber pads should be used for loading and unloading. It is forbidden to directly drag the truss. If necessary, lifting belts (load bearing ≥2 times the weight of the truss) should be used with soft lifting ropes to prevent stress concentration damage at the lifting point.

In addition, the truss surface needs to be pre-inspected before transportation, the original damage needs to be recorded and photographed for archiving, and after arrival, the trusses need to be unpacked and inspected step by step according to the packaging specifications to ensure that the protective measures are effective throughout the process.
